A permaculture designer can help with stabilising difficult environmental conditions, suggesting whole system-based solutions for changing soil conditions (soil re-cultivation), halting or reversing erosion or arranging plant beds on a steep slope.
These natural solutions (plant assemblies, use of chisel plough or the keyline design developed by P. A. Yeomans) can effectively create conditions beneficial to farming in sites where it had seemed completely impossible. By observing Nature, we can strike a balance between productivity of the land and the necessary environmental re-cultivation. For example, spots at risk of erosion may be used as beds for plants that will stabilise and enrich the soil, as well as shield against the wind and bear fruits.
